Q: What are you doing?
A: Reviewing some interesting quarterly results from various companies of interest. Also in a year when the S&P 500 and TSX are up nearly 25%, what possibly will get dumped out there for tax-loss harvesting, if anything? Finally, some other political-macroeconomic thoughts (the big picture is starting to clear up, at least to me). There should be a few minutes left for Q&A, so please feel free to ask them on the zoom registration if any.
Q: How do I register?
A: Zoom link is here. I’ll need your city/province or state and country, and if you have any questions in advance just add it to the “Questions and Comments” part of the form. You’ll instantly receive the login to the Zoom channel.
Q: Are you trying to spam me, try to sell me garbage, etc. if I register?
A: If you register for this, I will not harvest your email or send you any solicitations. Also I am not using this to pump and dump any securities to you, although I will certainly offer opinions on what I see.

A: I’m curious who you are as well.

Can you say which company quarterly results you will be speaking about? I would like to look at these before the meeting.
I’m going to talk (not in great detail) the Divestor Oil and Gas index quarterly reports, some transportation companies, and some “sky high” comparators (Beyond Meat!). But specific readings of the financials for advance study will not be necessary.

Nope.
On a side note, I was lucky to add a minor amount to the position in the 27s. While I am not entirely happy with all of this “adjusted EBITDA” talk on the financials, I think they have turned the corner… until the next grain bin collapse!
The current assumptions baked into the stock were quite pessimistic, just the way I like things.
I picked up a bunch as well in the 27s and 26s…..and in a rare (for me) moment of good market timing unloaded at just under 34, only to buy it all back at just over 31.5 the next day. I’m not sure why this stock is so volatile, but its not the first time this year that I’ve swing traded it.
I don’t know how you manage to swing trade and not lose your positions among all the friction, but if you can make a few bucks doing so then all the more power to you! I’m pretty incompetent at it. From a trading perspective, it doesn’t take much money (at least at an institutional level) to move the price around.
I quite often do lose my position when I swing trade…..those are the chances you take.When that happens I just move on…..never seems to be new calamities and opportunities in the markets. I figure tax loss season and 1 week past earnings date…not much catalyst until the new year for AFN…anyways this time it worked.
Judging by the run-up in AFN’s stock price a week before their quarterly release I really do suspect it was leaked. The bar was set so low after the previous quarter that I don’t think there needs to be much of a catalyst – the people buying between January and June in the 40s for a quick trade probably got washed out in August and September. People wanting safety and a small coupon probably should just buy the new issue of the convertible debenture, although they’ll be giving up the first 37% of equity upside…
